2012 Reebok Crossfit Games SoCal Regional Behind the Scenes Video

Here is a cool video by my great buddy, Jordan Gravatt of Crossfit by Overload, right after taking 2nd place on workout #4 at the SoCal Regional.  I like this video for many reasons.  This was a huge boost for me mentally and in the rankings.  So much of what we do in Crossfit is psychological/mental.  And I could see it in my eyes that there was no way I was going home without a Top 3 spot.

This was such a different year for me for some many reasons but especially in regards to my Regional Prep.  A couple weeks before the Event I did a run through of the weekend and with all of the workouts and treated it like it was Regionals weekend.  I hadn’t practiced the movements and I didnt test out the workouts at all before.  I did my run through and was satisfied with my first attempts.  I learned a lot about how I would go faster, strategy, etc.  But that was it.  I did not do the workouts anymore.  I continued to train for the Games.  Going in to Regionals I knew I would crush my previous times and compared to the previous Regionals I had some confidence in my ability to stay at the top.  The fact that I did not train for the Regional workouts yet did as well as I did gives me a HUGE mental edge as we prep and get ready for the Games.  Last year I trained for almost 2 months prepping myself on the exact Regional workouts.  Such a difference a year makes, right?  Looking forward to the Games I know I will be ready.  And I know I will leave my mark at the Home Depot Center in July.  Keep your eyes open or you might miss it!  Time to Spread that BUTTER!

  1. Thanks for sharing what’s going on inside your head and not just what your workout was and your time. So much of this is mental and not just a physical workout as you said and me just doing this for over 2 years now I’m realizing that.

I’ll be 42 and at my box I’m one of the oldest and one of the Bad Asses going up against these young kids who just want to beat this Old man. 3-2-1 go and for some there’s no mental strategy just balls to the wall and BOOM they just spent all their strength and energy right from the start. Ill sometime crush their scores and that’s not my goal. It’s me against the clock. Give it all I got. But with a mental and psychical mindset always going thu my head.

It’s been a pleasure to get to know you a little bit better and wish you great success at Kinnick CrossFit and at the Games. Your surrounded by amazing friends and family and thats the most important thing if anything comes out of this journey your on.

    1. Thanks for the comment Mr. Atlas! Crossfit & the community has completely changed my entire existence. I just want to do whatever I can to help others through my experience. Its taken me a long time to truly harness and realize how powerful mind is and what I am capable of. When I am out there competing I have that same mentality of me against the clock and against my weakness or my mind telling me to quit. But training yourself to push the limits a little bit daily helps get through those moments. I will be writing a blog soon about the mental side and the stuff that Tony Blauer and his SPEAR System have taught me. Great stuff. Thanks for the continued support! Its been great getting to know you and be a part of your incredible growth with Atlas Power Wraps! Keep doing what you are doing!
